The Signal - Notes

Dominion of Ashes is a concept album — twelve interconnected songs that tell one continuous story. The Signal opens that story, acting as the ignition point for everything that follows, both musically and thematically.

The opening riff is a fanfare of guitars — a reintroduction to Meat Thunderstick — bold, familiar, and just a little ominous. It’s the sound of the curtain lifting on a world that’s about to unravel.

The song imagines a strange resonance, something beyond ordinary hearing, moving through the earth and the human mind. It could be technological, cosmic, or something far older. As the story unfolds, the Signal reveals itself as the echo of fallen civilizations — history’s recurring memory replayed through sound. Rome’s march, Byzantium’s hymns, Berlin’s silence — their ghosts ripple beneath the surface, waiting to be heard.

Within the album’s narrative, The Signal emerges during a time of growing unrest. It awakens something deep within humanity — a flicker of conscience, or perhaps a warning. Some hear it as music, others as madness. That tension between awakening and fear runs through the entire record.

As the first track, The Signal sets the tone for Dominion of Ashes: a world on the edge, listening to a message it doesn’t yet understand. Everything that follows begins here — with one resonant frequency breaking through the static.
